Music

At Marsden Junior School., we use the Sing Up scheme to support the teaching and learning of Music. This scheme has been designed in accordance with the National Curriculum and we follow a 2-year cycle. Our music curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and explore their talents as musicians, while increasing their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. In this way, we will ensure that we help to nurture confident, independent, resilient musicians. Pupils have the opportunity to listen carefully to and evaluate music from a wide variety of musical periods, styles and genres, performing with their voices and instruments, developing musical skills such as improvisation and composition and learning about the inter-related dimensions of music (e.g. pitch, tempo and structure).

Throughout their time at Marsden Junior School, pupils will have the opportunity to learn different instruments with Musica Kirklees. Our Year 5/6 children are currently learning to play the ukulele.

We were recently awarded the Music Mark of Recognition in acknowledgment of the opportunities available to our pupils through our music curriculum and the range of clubs we offer.

Musical tuition

There is the opportunity for children to learn various musical instruments (e.g. brass, strings, woodwind, piano, percussion) depending on their age and aptitude, through Kirklees Music School and is arranged with them directly by calling 01484 426426.
