Maths

Mathematics at Marsden Junior School is closely based on the White Rose scheme of work, which has been designed in accordance with The National Curriculum.

Our aim is that our children receive a rich, balanced and progressive curriculum that will provide children with excellent knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts and processes. To achieve this, we use the Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach to teach mathematical concepts and skills. Children are then immersed in fluency, reasoning and problem solving activities that build a deep understanding and mastery of concepts and connections within mathematics and the wider world.

At Marsden Junior School, we create a rich mathematical environment using working walls, sentence stems and high expectations of ‘math talk’ to promote the use of correct mathematical vocabulary. Discussion and paired work are built into the lessons for children to practice and improve their vocabulary.

Children develop a passion for mathematics and are engaged in their learning; they become avid thinkers and problem solvers whilst communicating their ideas confidently.
